OpenAI ChatGPT Store is like the Play Store but for AI bots, and bots can make money for developers

About a year ago, we were all introduced to OpenAI’s generative AI chatbot, ChatGPT. From answering questions about almost anything to writing music and poetry, chatbots took the internet by storm and people started thinking of new ways to use them. At the time of its launch, ChatGPT had a limited knowledge base and only one, free version available to users. However, as time progressed, OpenAI introduced several updates to the viral chatbot.

Recently, OpenAI announced the arrival of GPT-4 Turbo, a more powerful version of ChatGPT. Along with this, the company also announced that people will soon be able to create their custom ChatGPAT chatbots, which will be searchable on PlayStore, but for AI chatbots.

Say hello to the GPT Store

OpenAI is calling these custom ChatGPT chatbots GPTs. “We’re introducing custom versions of ChatGPT that you can create for a specific purpose – called GPTs,” the company wrote on its blog and said that anyone can create these GPTs without any coding.

“You can make them for yourself, just for your company’s internal use, or for everyone. Creating one is as easy as starting a conversation, giving it instructions and extra knowledge, and picking what it can do, like searching the web, making images or analyzing data,” the blog post added.

As of now, these GPTs are only available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users. However, OpenAI plans to offer GPT to more users soon.

In the same blog post, OpenAI also announced the launch of a GPT store, in which creations from verified users will be available. Once your GPT becomes part of the store, it will become searchable and can rank on the store. This is not so, the GPT created by you can also help you in earning money.

OpenAI said it would highlight useful GPTs in a variety of categories. And creators will make money based on how many people use their GPT. More usage means more money for creators.

“Starting today, you can create GPTs and share them publicly. Later this month, we’re launching the GPT Store, featuring creations by verified builders. Once in the store, GPTs become searchable and may climb the leaderboards. We will also spotlight the most useful and delightful GPTs we come across in categories like productivity, education, and “just for fun”. In the coming months, you’ll also be able to earn money based on how many people are using your GPT,” the company’s blog post read.

ChatGPT gets an upgrade

In addition to optimized chatbots, OpenAI also announced an advanced GPT-4. The AI model, called GPT-4 Turbo, promises to be more powerful and cheaper than its predecessors. It stores information up to April 2023 and also has a larger reference window, meaning you can now enter much larger signals.

“GPT-4 Turbo is more capable and has knowledge of world events up to April 2023. It has a 128k context window, so it can fit the equivalent of over 300 pages of text in a single signal. We also measured its performance “We are able to offer GPT-4 Turbo at a price that is 3x cheaper for input tokens and 2x cheaper for output tokens than GPT-4,” OpenAI said in its blog post.
