Microsoft has announced a new AI skills initiative to help people and communities around the world better learn artificial intelligence. The new initiative, which is part of Microsoft’s Skills for Jobs program, includes new, free coursework developed with LinkedIn. Here’s everything you need to know.

Microsoft and LinkedIn have launched a new Learning Path to provide free introductory generic AI learning materials. Through this new curriculum, workers will learn introductory concepts of AI, including a look at responsible AI frameworks, and receive a Career Essentials Certificate upon completion. It sounds good for those who want professional certifications in Generative AI.

A recent NASSCOM report found that India has the second largest AI talent pool globally and ranks first in both AI skills penetration and AI talent concentration. However, given the current talent base of around 420,000 professionals, there is still a 51 percent gap between the demand and supply of AI/ML Big Data Analytics technical talent in India.

Microsoft says AI is poised to create an entirely new way of working, such that the speed of information processing is outpacing our ability, and therefore, it’s launching a new campaign to help people improve AI. The tech giant claims that around 70,000 female students from tier II and III cities have been trained in AI skills in the last two years.

Gunjan Patel, Director and Head – Philanthropy, Microsoft India said, “AI skills represent the third highest priority for companies’ training strategies, along with analytical and creative thinking. AI has tremendous potential to empower workers. However, we need to make sure that everyone has the skills to use it. The new AI Skills Initiative marks a new beginning that will create a new wave of technology innovation to come.

Generative AI has become popular since OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November 2022. This chatbot service has managed to impress people and even intimidate some of them because of its skill set. While many people are using it to get their work done quickly, many users also fear that their jobs may be at risk as AI is able to do things instantly which take humans time to finish. AI is being used for many things around the world to get things done better and more efficiently. That’s why companies are gradually giving more importance to AI experts.
